I have had these cassettes for years and to be honest two of them I never sat and gave a listen. Sometimes it's music that when I first hear it I turn my nose up to it and put away but as I get older I pull the LP out and I realize it wasn't the music...it was me not ready for it. Sometimes I just listen to it period.
A Winter's Solstice II is a cassette LP that I have had in my possession for over 10 years and never sat and listen to it until now. Maybe it was because of the title of maybe I thought it was a Christmas LP (which it is not). And I keep forgetting that most of the artists were either classically trained or have a very deep root into Jazz, Bluegrass. Well I have blew the dust off of the cassette LP and I have to admit it's pretty cool.
How come I do stupid stuff like? It's not like tomorrow is promise to me and what if I would have lost these cassette LPs and I would have had to pay full price for them? Oh well, what's done is done and now I am converting them so all is right with the world.
The other cassette I remember listening to NPR and hearing Michael Kamen being interviewed about this piece of work, "Concerto for Saxophone" feat. David Sanborn. I remember hearing the first movement of "Concerto for Sanborn" and I was like, "whoa...I have to get that LP". So I made a trip to my local Streetside Record store and bought the cassette LP. This again was a cassette LP where when hearing the entire piece of work I was not moved by it and put it away for a minute. Now I can listen to it, my queen can listen to it (she thought it was really nice) and now I can share it with the masses.
I have to admit there are some music I purchased and it is not that good but I have to admit, I think I did okay with these selection.
[be on the lookout for me showcasing these 3 LP in April]
This weekend was really nice. We had the grandchildren over and just watching how Lil' Casey watch over his little brother is funny and sweet at the same time. Sometimes Caleb gets on Lil' Casey nerves (especially when he's playing the video and Caleb want's attention). I will post the pics of them when I get home later today.
If you get a chance, go pick up Windham Hill in Concert. It's on DVD now, it came out in 1986 with Wil Ackerman, the late Michael Hedges, Scott Cusso, and Shadowfax. Each (except Scott Cusso) perform 3 songs. This live concert DVD is a must have when chilling with the one you love, lights low, have the surround sound going. You will not be dissappointed. Here is one the songs performed on the dvd....
Hello everyone,
Here is a track from one of the very first cassettes (yes I said cassette) that
I bought from Windham Hill Records.
This is when Will Ackerman was at the helm. He has sold Windham Hill
and has gone on to bigger and better things...
Imaginary Road Studio. I will link his website, his studio is beautiful.
Michael Hedges was one of the most gifted musicians around.
Tragic he was killed in an automobile accident. This track is from his Aerial Boundries CD.
