This
is a podcast that should have been recorded in October but little
things got in the way like, school, work, marriage...you know, life. I
finally buckled down and push this podcast out because I opened my big
mouth and said I was doing a 2 hour podcast which I will not ever do
again. I enjoyed recorded the podcast but when it comes to show notes,
that's a different story. I was blessed because this can still be
burned to a CD.
I made one mistake. I said "December" instead of "November" so forgive me for that mishap. A lot of great music so sit back, relax and enjoy.

Podcast to Check Out
Chillcast/Radio BSOTS Collabocast
I don't know if Anji Bee does these collabocast on a regular basis but I hope this is a trend that keeps going...
Two podcasters that I have the utmost respect got together and have one of best conversations I have ever heard. Jason Smith aka "Macedonia" of Radio BSOTS opens up with Anji Bee gives us insight on when and how radio bsots came to existence. If you want to know about true dedication when it comes to producing a podcast this is the man to listen to and I am truly glad he decided to share the masses because for me this gentleman and others (Fave, ejflavors, todd kelley, Fresh) has encouraged me to hang in there with this podcasting genre.
This conversation reminds me of an Echoes living room interview where you get the inside track of the person on their thoughts on music, where it's been, where it's going and where it will end up in the future. Listening to Jason (Macedonia) I am truly an "audio geek" myself. As Jason said, video is cool for some people but for him he is a audio guy. The main reason why I truly enjoyed this sit down conversation between Anji Bee and Jason is that you feel you are there with them, kicked back, relaxed, being informed and being entertained at the same time. Another thing that is so cool to me is that even though I am older than these two gifted podcasters is that how in the end how they both still love vinyl while embracing the digital age. While I truly dig mp3s, mp3 players, I enjoy converting cassette LPs, I enjoy reading the liner notes of the artists, producers, engineers.
So many cool things from the hour and half Jason reminds that when producing podcast it's like Chris Penn said, "Internet Radio on Demand". Just because I produced and post or a podcast doesn't mean that people will hear that show that day. It may be the next day, it may be next week, next month...the point is that people are listening to your show. I think that is where I would have my little pity party and feel sorry for myself but when I hear it explained this way by Jason it makes me feel much better about what I do.
Anji Bee and Jason discuss why they like the audio genre, the video genre, what works for them, what does not, the challenges ahead in reference to audio podcasting, how they search for new music, (I have to admit, I'm on iodapromonet and now jamendo) and wonder why Tuesday is the drop day for new music for iTunes, Iodapromonet, the theme music for BSOTS[Jonny Sonic], wonderful information for a audio geek like myself.
If you want to get to know Jason a little more this is the podcast to check out.
Keep 'em coming Anji, keep 'em coming.
With
so much that has went on these past 24 months a chapter has finally
finished in this book with another chapter beginning very soon...Barack
Obama was been elected President of the United States. This for many
people, especially Black men gives us that extra boost to allow us to
dream a little bit more, hope much further, to put in our mind, heart,
and spirit that yes, if we do truly work harder, keep our eyes on the
prize we can truly achieve. So many wonder podcast has hit the web
(from TGrundy, EJ Flavors, DJ Diva, Macedonia, Fave, Doug Fresh) that
summed up the spirit on how many people were feeling...Black, White,
Hispanic, Asian, people of Middle East decent, young, old. This indeed
is a very wonderful time given the past 8 years we have had to endure.
With my podcast is a time for rest...not a long rest...just rest for about an hour or so because we know it's a very steep, uphill battle for President-elect Obama. He truly needs our prayers because his every move will be under a microscope. Big shout outs go to my fellow podcasters, my twitter/plurk/Vox community. The collection of music is to try and unwind you for a little spell. I will have links to other podcasts that is a must have for your mp3 player or burn to a cd.
Enjoy.

Our Daily Bread Devotional: Serve Or Die
Biblical Passage: Mark 10:35-45 (New Living Translation)
You hear this all the time, "If God is a loving God, why does he allow suffering in the world?" Straightforward question and here is the straightforward answer: God has given HUMANS, yes, You and I, domain over the world. It's amazing how we forget things like this. We want to do want we want, live anyway we want to live but when trouble hits the world or our little part of world we want God to wipe the slate clean.
God has blessed us all with a very solid blueprint on how to handle things in the world...the Holy Bible. I have to be honest, whenever I have wholeheartedly obeyed God I can not say He has ever forsaken me. But I have to keep telling myself when I live God's way I am on his time table, not my own. I may get upset with him wondering why doesn't He move in my life when I want Him to but I am old enough now to know that many times I get myself in certain situations that has caused me grief. I was the one that went right when God told me and has taught me to go right. When you get real and honest with yourself it humbles you and you begin not to play the "blame game" so much which many Christians and non-Christians do now.
I'm I say that all Christians have this "oh whoa is me" attitude? Of course not. But we have to get to a put that we as Followers of Christ can not disobey God and assume that we can treat Him as our own Genie in the bottle and wipe our mistakes away. He can do that but what would he have learned from our mistakes? There is the other scenario...there are things that popped up in our lives that we have no control over and it will bring us heartache and at the time it hurts like heck and we have every right to asked God why. Job asked God why, Many prophets in the Bible as God why. In the book of Psalms King David asked God why time and time again but what I have learned to ask God now is not "why" but "what can I learn from this situation." Now that I have learned that very important key it stops me from being a victim to becoming a conqueror.
We must come to the realization that God has put us in charge of the world. It is not God that fail people, we fail people but every day we have the power to correct this mistake when we wake up each morning.

& Have a Wonderful Thursday

At
o4:35am I decided to tackle this podcast and I'm glad I did. For me
most time before the sun comes up my mind is clear, ideas flow through
my little brain and a podcast is born. This podcast was inspired by the
track "Daykeeper" by Foreign Exchange and I think I have a crush on Muhsinah
(yeah, I know...my crushes changes like the weather) but this beautiful
young lady has a very haunting/angelic voice on this track it puts in
mind of waking up with the one you love. You have search high and low
for this special someone but at the same time you never really open up
your heart to anyone until now. When I heard this track on Macedonia's podcast I had to include it in a Twilight podcast (I found out later that Anewlis
had this song in her podcast as well, man I so behind at time when it
comes to music). Big, BIG thanx to the genius Todd Kelley for hooking
me up to the not only the vocal tracks to "Leave It All Behind" but the
instrumental tracks are included so good looking out bro. ^_^
Shadowfax I remember first hearing "Road To Hanna" on the 1998 Windham Sampler and was hooked on them ever since. Although the founder Chuck Greenburg has passed away I am amazed how this group was before it's time and that is when Windham Hill truly loved the music they produced and when the founder Will Ackerman had his hand in mostly all of the LPs that came from Windham Hill Record and it was not a bad thing. When Windham Hill Records grew into a juggernaut he sold his stake in the company and headed back to Vermont and to his roots and I believe he is much happier now. "Shaman Song" has that mixture of World/Acoustic/Electric feel to it. I love how each of these elements blend into one beautiful song
"Get Here" is a song that is both beautiful and yet sad at the same time. Oleta Adams voice and her piano playing makes you truly feel true love and true love lost whenever notes comes from her beautiful voice. What else sticks out to me is the fretless bass that is playing in the background. To me it brings out the true expression of this composition.
Kim Water's "Secret Romance" has the out on a Sunday Stroll kind of feel. I play the heck out of his "Someone To Love" LP and now I need to begin checking out this LP. You so many talented saxophone players out here and time and time again Mr. Waters comes out with a LP that makes seat back and say, "dang dude, you did it again."
I first showcased this track doing my podcast dedicated to my lovely queen and every now and then I have to pull this out and throw it in the line up. "If I Knew" by Jimmy Sommers has that smooth/laid back/silky feel to it. You have no choice but to keep your feet and nod your head.
The cool thing about Nicolay is whether if he has vocals over his mixes are just instrumental you play them again, again, again. Maybe it's just me happy that Fall is here but I it has that "brisk" feel to it. "All or Nothing/Coming Home to You" just has that air of everything is going to be alright no matter what the circumstance vibe. I have to get my hands on as much of his work as I can because I have a feeling this will not be the last time I will showcase his music on my podcast.
From the opening thick, rich bass line from Walter Becker on the track "Snowbound" for the song can go no where but "up". I think this was the very first cd I bought when I finally purchased a 3-CD player from Best Buy. Every song from the "Kamakiriad" LP takes you on the journey with Donald Fagen as he takes his travels in his Kamakiriad and on every stop you don't mind chilling with him. I love this track because it makes you slow down and just "be" and in this world of ours today we need that and the horn arrangements lets me truly realize how much of a great songwriter Mr. Fagen is time and time again.
The more I hear this piano solo composition by Liz Story the more I fall in love with it. Tracks like this make me seat and self reflect whether if it's good times or bad times it make me sit and reflect on what I need to do when it comes to certain issues in my life. "Church of Trees" for me is a song that makes you take long walks and have one-on-one conversations with God and take hold of all of the blessings I have in my life. I may not be rich but I am rich when it comes to the major things in my life...a healthy relationship, employment, being about to pay my bills, and of course to bring you these podcasts. ^_^
I still have this complilation LP on cassette. I think in the late 80's and early 90's I began to find my feel on what music I truly enjoy and when I stumbled upon "Narada Collections Vol. 2" I was hooked and this track from Colin Chin was one of the composition that sealed the deal for me. I loved smooth jazz/new age music and that was that. No longer did I feel ashamed and out of place. "The Alluvial Plains" is a very relaxing, beautiful arrangement and with the help of Mark Isham really gives it that calm/mellow feel to it.
You have heard me say time and time again that Prefab Sprout did not get the respect they richly deserved here in the states. To me, Paddy McAloon is one of the best songwriters around. The only hit they had stateside was "When Love Breaks Down" but the entire "Two Wheels Good" is very intelligently written and the composition are masterly arranged. "Cars and Girls" is another track that when I hear brings a smile to my face and "The Best of Prefab Sprout: Life of Suprises" is a must have in your music libary.
Another LP you need in your library is "Dreamcatcher" from Andy McKee. I have showcase tunes by this gifted acoustic guitarist and "I Will See You Again"
is another track that blows me away. If you have had a rough day, throw
on this LP and just let your cares melt away. The arrangement with this
track is very cool.
Whenever I hear songs by Seal it puts me in mind of movies like "I am Legend", "Children of Men", "Equilibrium"...very furturist, struggling for the good of men. "Tinsel Town" for me paints a world that is bleak, hopeless, a quick fix for happiness that will not last. Not all of his songs leaves me feeling drained and dark but this one tells off on Hollywood (that's if he's talking about Hollywood but it sure paints a picture of how it really is doesn't he?).
The opposite is true when hearing Nicolay's "Hey!" I love playing this song, over and over and over and over...you get the message. For me this track showcase the city lights, hanging out with your friends just enjoying life. Sometime this month and the following months I have to make a pledge to get a LP by Nicolay every pay period so I can really dig into this genius music collage. ^_^
