Devotional from Our Daily Bread: Gossip-Free Zone
Biblical Passage: Proverbs 25: 8-18
I know this is going to sound bias and I'm going to sound like a male chauvinist pig so I'm getting that out of the way right now but I often tell people that the only women I enjoy working around are geek women. With geek women gossip is truly at a minimum. They care about their appearance but I have never heard them tear down another woman, well at least while I'm around. They are not into dumb shows like Desperate Housewives, Girlfriends, Sex & the City, The Starters Wife (while USA Network airs that show I will never know), Tyler Perry movies...yes I said it.
Gossip is something I have heard men and women do from time to time and it's very easy to get caught up in it. Gossip is one of those subtle sins that before you know it you're right in the middle of that mess. You don't think you get caught up in it? Have you ever read PEOPLE, US, Star magazines? Have you ever watch any so called Reality shows?
*my hand goes up slowly
It's amazing so many things that are positive that surrounds us and many times we are drawn to the negative. There is the Travel Channel, Discovery Channel, TLC, National Geographic Channel, heck for me The Weather Channel is productive (they play some of the best smooth jazz when showcasing "The Local on the 8's"). Do you own a mp3 player? So many positive podcast are out here from pastor Greg Laurie, Paul Sheppard, Dr. Charles Stanley, David Jeremiah, Tony Evans, the late Adrian Rogers & Dr. J. Vernon McGee, Michael Yousef, James McDonald...and these are national pastors and I'm sure that there are local pastors in your area that great teachers of God's word. You have some great music podcast (mine included...hint, hint), great tech shows and yet we sometimes get sucked into the gossip abyss.
I love the book of Proverbs. If you ever want sound, no nonsense every day advice this is the book to read a chapter a day. So much is written about gossip because God knows that is where the majority of all problems begin...word of mouth. If we want our children, our grandchildren gossiping or talking ill of people we as adults must lead by example when it comes to what we read, what we watch, what we say. Let's begin to make our home, our speech a "Gossip-Free Zone".

What
has not been said about this historic event. For me being Black, being
a man lets me know that our country is showing that we can come
together when we really need to and to allow a person of color to steer
this ship called the United States. Many thanx for all my fellow
podcasters who produced some of the best podcasts
in reference to this glorious moment and a big, BIG thanx to all of the
young voters who proved the pundits wrong that yes you do care what's
going on in your future and others around you. Young Americans are not
slackers, they strivers like the generation that came before them.
Enjoy.

shout outs to all of the podcasters that inspire me, push me to do my best so I can bring some of the best laid back music to the masses and to let you(the listeners) know that good music is still being made...you just have to seek it out, you will not be disappointed.
You have heard me menitioned Pastor Greg Laurie from time to time because what I truly enjoy about his messages is how he explains the bible and his humor. This message I heard on my iPod is no exception...A God of Second Chances (part II) is about how our Lord and Savior can forgives us no matter what mess we get into and how He loves you and I no matter what decsions we make.
Now, this is not to say we will not have to pay the consenquences for our actions but to know that God still loves you and I regardless is truly a blessing.
I hope you get a chance to listen to this today and share it with a family member, a non-believer, your children.
Be Blessed, Be Safe and Have a Wonderful Thursday.
He has a very cool website as well.

A while back I heard Dr. Charles Stanley say it's better to tell people that "I'm a Follower of Jesus Christ" more so than telling people "I am a Christian". I think that's really good because many people claim to be Christians and think just because of their works that will give them a VIP into kingdom of God...that is not the case.
Our Father knows how our ego would swell so big if we were saved just on our works alone. We would not treat people with respect because if God received you and I just for our works, we would treat one another like dirt because all we would have to do is "play" catch up with our works for the Lord and we would skate into Heaven with no worries.
And then the other end of the spectrum, some people would feel like they could never do enough to find favor with God because of guilt, not enough skills. We would look around and feel inadequate>>>more

devotional reading from our daily bread
I don't understand rich people...why are they so unhappy? I am not saying money is evil, far from that, like Zig Ziglar always says, "Money ain't everything...but it's the next best thing to oxygen...I mean when you need it you really need it." I'm not saying that money solves all problems because what I have learned for myself, if you're not "Christ centered" you really have nothing. In a way I guess I do know the answer but it still makes me wonder, why are rich folks so unhappy?
If they want to just get up and travel to another state or another country they can. If they wish to shop they can and buy just about whatever they want whenever they want. Check out the people in Hollywood, what is their problem? It's just amazing how they could do just about whatever they want and still most get divorced, sleep around, in and out of rehab. Whatever they want the can have but they turn to drugs, alcohol, millions of dollars in therapy sessions. I mean, they should be having the times of their lives. The Oscars are coming on this Sunday and the only thing I can think of are the cool swag bag they are going to receive (I know it's sad on my part...do I pay attention to the clothing, the movie stars, no...I'm thinking about the gadgets they are going to receive...oh well, life of a geek). I know even after the awards and after parties some of them will still go home depressed, unhappy, unfulfilled...why?I remember back in 2000 I was security lobby officer at a fortune 500 company how I would see so many of the workers come in and would be and look so unhappy. Their attitudes would be so nasty sometimes and I could not understand why? Everyone has bad days, we all have them. But some of them were just miserable every day. Their salaries were really nice, the building where I worked was pretty cool, most of the offices were loft and the set up was sweet but for the most part, they would walk past my desk, half speak(when they locked their keys in their vehicle or had a flat tire I was their best friend for a short time) but for the most part attitudes just nasty. Were the employees like these? Not at all.
I remember the CEO of Ralston Purina at the time, now this guy had to be the most humble man I saw. The only regret I have was not asking him why he was so humble and how could I achieve what he has done. I was not looking for handout but just some guidelines on how to obtain some financial secure, how to keep a level head when you have made to the top of your field. Each employee when passing my desk would have to show their employee badge and Mr. McGinnis had no problem do that. Even if his hands were full, he would stop, set his items down and pull out his employee badge, show that million-dollar smile and go on his merry way. Was he a Christian I do not know but I do know he was very kind, always spoke, and always had a kind word to say to you, always humble. I can read people pretty good and this was genuine. Some people you know when they are shooting you bull but not Mr. McGinnis. I'm not saying he was a saint but just a very kind man.
I remember when I first gave my life to the Lord and Mr. Cleo Horton told me a book to read in the Bible, Ecclesiastes. When I first began reading it I thought, "man King Solomon is one depressed dude...sheesh!" Then from out of now where the Holy Spirit opened up my mind and understanding and told me, "This is what it's like when you can have everything you ever want and if you do not have Me (God) at the center of your life, it's all emptiness". Wow...that did for me. This is what King Solomon saying, “Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher, “completely meaningless!”(Ecclesiastes 1:2).
Now I am not saying that we all have to be paupers in order to be happy, if that's the case Solomon would not have been the wisest, richest man in the world. What I am saying is that everything has it's place. They is nothing wrong with having money, being rich, being famous, being successful. God wants you and I to enjoy life to the fullest but to put everything in it's place. He have given you and I principles, guidelines to live by and in the end they are for our best at heart. One pastor has said the book of Proverbs is the "Book of Wisdom" where as Ecclesiastes is the "Book of living foolishly" I am getting a second chance at life. I will begin school soon, I am going after what God has placed in me to do with my life. It's going to be challenging, it's going to hit some speed bumps from time to time but deep down it's going to be fun.
What I take from the rich and famous is this: love Jesus Christ first, family second, career third. Take care of you business always, keep your affairs(will, paying bills, savings, investment) in order, love life, treat people the way you wish to be treated, always keep learning, if you don't want people to know your business...don't put it out there, seek God in everything you do, keep your eyes on Him always and as King Solomon said if you do that...
Tie them around your neck as a reminder.
Write them deep within your heart.
Then you will find favor with both God and people,
and you will earn a good reputation."

The difference between "Christians" and a "Followers of Jesus Christ". This is why I really enjoy listening to Greg Laurie, Dr. Charles Stanley, Paul Shepard, David Jeremiah. If we can't poke fun of ourselves, who can (and God gave you and I a sense of humor didn't He?)

Security expert: User
education is pointless>>>more
from CNet News.com
Tuesday I wrote a "help" guide on how to protect yourself when surfing the web. But from the sounds of this article most users are "idiots" in so many words. From what he's saying we should just throw our hands up and let your systems get infected, throw most computer users to the wolves.
I have to admit sometimes it can be a challenge but what he fails to realize is that all of us have been naive from one time or another. I look at this matter in some ways like telling people about Christ Jesus...either you will listen or you won't. But I have learned over time is that all of us have free will.
You can't make people do something if they do not wish to do it...plain and simple. Example, I ask my wife to use Mozilla Firefox to search the web, most of the time she doesn't; does that make her a moron, no....hard headed, yes (but she's still my SugarBaby) Does she pay for it in the end..yes. She is a grown woman and computer users will or will not heed computer experts warnings. And to be fair most computer users shouldn't have to IT Specialist to surf the web but the times we live in we have to be cautious.
But let me give Mr. Gorling and the other tech experts a little advise...don't belittle people. This is why nerds and geeks have such a bad rep for thinking we're superior and everyone else is inferior (remember Nick the Computer Guy from Saturday Night Live?). I like how Leo Laporte addresses the matter, "we all were novice at one time or another...", I know I don't have all the answers and I learn something new everyday...like not be like this guy...but the point is Mr. Gorling, lighten up. It's not your system that's effected and if everyone was experts, what would you be doing? It's tiresome sometimes, frustrating at times but the bottom line, people will learn to surf the web smarter or they won't.

It's good to know that we as Christians that once we depart this earth that our heavenly home awaits us. But they is one other thing I wish to share. So many of my brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus still live like paupers here on earth and I don't mean just material wise.
Our pastor once said when we were in the world you and I would not let anyone walk all over us but since we have given our lives to the Lord we become wimps. No, I'm not saying be a Christian bully but just because we have given our lives to our Lord and Savior does not mean we let anyone talk to us any kind of way. Why do you think non Christians still in the world. because when they think of us they think of wimpy, push overs, doormat. Even when thinking of Jesus Christ they think of this puny guy. Let me remind Jesus Christ was a carpenter and they did not have power tools back in their time. Also when He had to carry his cross to calvary for us that piece of wood had to at least weigh 200-300 pounds, and it wasn't varnished.
With His back ripped open, down to the bone, pieces of splinters entered his back whenever he walked to his finish paying for my sins and yours. Christ did not die for you and to have fear of preaching the gospel to the lost. And talk about persucution....
The early Christians were fed to the lions, used as human torches, cut in half(that is how the prophet Isaiah died), and we get upset when the call us "Jesus Freaks" or "Holy Rollers". My family will have what the world has and much more: a stable, very nice home, a loving husband toward my wife, a loving grandfather to my grandkids, a teacher to them, a disciplinary, a comforter to my grandchildren. We are suppose to be in the world and not act like the world. Jesus Christ gave up so much for me and I trying each and everyday to give it my all to please Him. There is so much more I have to do and I will try and accomplished because of my love for Him and for what He has done for me.
Have a Blessed, Safe, & Productive day.

Leo Laporte....this man can do no wrong. I have called in twice to the show, KFI Tech Guy and let me tell you, this guy is so nice, so humble. He does not mind helping you out at anytime, if he has the answer, he gives it to you; if he doesn't have the answer, he will let you know and will throw the question out to the listeners for the answer. For a gentleman who is known really around the tech world this guy is so down to earth it makes you wander, "why can't all geeks be this way?" Leo has made learning computing, learning about tech gadgets, fun, entertaining, educational all at the same time.
I remember first hearing and seeing him on TechTV along with Patrick Norton, Kevin Rose, Roger Chang, Chris Pirillo and the whole gang. To me this was "smart television". But smart does not roll over to good ratings. After 5 years Paul Allen sold it and the channel became G4 TV and down it went. I had a gut feeling Leo would be gone soon because to me G4 is very low brow. Fast foward to now....
Leo has a much larger following now and it makes me smile because with him and the ex-TechTV group doing their own podcast, video show over the internet it gives me hope that nice guys (especially geeks) sometime finish first. This is why I do what I do and hope one day I can help as many or more people like this true gentleman is doing.
Thank you for taking time out and sharing your knowledge Leo. And by the way, congrads on your award.
