No More School and other Rambling from a Geek
crosspost from my lifeonthisearth blog
School is Out!!! ^_^
Last Thursday was my last day of school for my Humanities Cluster and I believe I did okay. ^_^ I picked up a part time again because it's time for me to get my finances together because when you have your finances in order your marriage is more stable, less worry about unnecessary bills and more focus on important things like...school work. One thing I learned as well is when I'm in school, I can't blog everyday only when I have the time and for me one thing is very important...NO TELEVISION!!! This is my enemy. It's not the television fault it's mine plain and simple. I know there is nothing really worth viewing and if I really need to see something I can either buy the program I want, rent it and more and more content is coming on the web and podcast why should I watch television.
I really had to thank my instructor for some of the requirement readings because it introduced me to the classics again. I never read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. We had to write an analysis report on the novel. Taking on this task was pretty tough, mostly because of my laziness and not having my priorities in order until Leo Laporte came to rescue when I was listening to one on his ThisWeek(in)Tech...TWiT. He has a offer for one free book from audible.com and the Holy Spirit told me to download the unabridged version of Frankenstein. I was not disappointed. Now I know why this book is a classic. I listened to the book (it's over 7 hours but worth every bit of the time) read along with the book and I was really so into this book I know I will listen to it again. Now I truly know why people say, "The book is better than the movie." Once my finances get straight audible.com will become a very close friend to me.
A New Toy
My
girlfriend..aka my wife bought me a Father's Day gift (or two) that I
will be forever grateful. As you know last Thanksgiving my Canon
PowerShot got damage and in a way I haven't really felt like a "true
blogger" without it so this Saturday she bought me a another camera
from Best Buy...FujiFilm A825.
^_^ It's not my Canon Powershot but I like this just the same. I will
get my Canon SLR down the road but just to have another camera is a
just a blessing in itself. It has 8.3 Megapixels(more that the previous
camera I had) and the size is pretty nice I must say.
I also had a chance to get some cables for my video iPod from Marshall's for only 10 bucks. I haven't really put any videos on my iPod in a while because I became tired of watching videos on it but I tested the cables on iPod because I had one tech video on it and it actually plays on television when connected to the iPod and that's really cool. I will load some videos on it tonight when I get home from work from DL.TV, The Merlin Show, Cranky Geeks to see how they look on the television and if they decent I will begin putting them back on my iPod because I can deal with that. I will let you know how the quality on it looks, I'm really hope the video looks nice on the screen. It really should because television quality is much lower than computer monitors.
Stripped Laptops
Me geek brother Luis and I recently discussed about what applications we really use on our computers and if and how to speed up older computer (this applies to me because all my machines are older). It's really weird, the geekier I become the less stuff I want on my computers. I guess this is a good thing because whenever I get my new systems I will put applications and tools I REALLY need. I have an old IBM Thinkpad 600E (with a Pentium II) and the only programs I have on it now is a couple of browsers (Firefox, The World, Flock) a light CD burning software on their (DeepBurner).
What About Your Friends?
(movie was so so but the message is great)
Yesterday
my mistress...aka my wife was watching this movie on ABC (channel 30
locally for you St. Louis readers) a TV movie with the Keshia Knight Pulliam from The Cosby Show days called, "What About Your Friends?"
The movie was not all that great but the message was pretty cool about
3 friends competing for scholarships for college when visiting a
college campus and normally I frown upon tv movies but this wasn't too
bad. To really enjoy the movie I had to put myself in their shoes when
I was their age and tackled the being away from home in school, finding
yourself, learning to work within a group as well as working on you
own, being able not only to becoming a good leader but a follower when
it comes to learning and most important...being yourself.
Sticking With Blogger
There's
no place like home. I like Wordpress, don't get me wrong but I keep
coming back to Blogger. I love tech but there are somethings I like to
figure out, tinker with and there are some things I just want to "just
go" and blogger does that for me. I'm not a pro like Bonita, Suni, Lauren or Fave
when it comes to tweaking blog themes so I have to go with what I know
(you four make me so envy but I still love ya...LOL) Maybe if I had
more time to tinker around with themes it would be cool but when it
comes to blogging, Vox and Blogger is for me. Blogger has the fonts I
like, it's easy to post pictures and images, and the themes I really
like so my home is now Blogger. I have about four blogs I have so
neglected from Blogger so I will begin focus on them and I'm about to
start another blog on Blogger. I may cross post to my GodnGadgets
blog but I'm coming back home to my first love, Blogger. Vox is the
place to be when it comes to community blogs and Vox is so cool and for
me and Blogger is my main blog for here on...whew...that's done. LOL ^_~
Getting Back To Me Music
Now that I am outta school for a short time now I can get back to finding my jazz at my local library and begin posting it again. This weekend we will have company and so maybe I may get a chance to go to the library and begin checking out my music again.
Question for my audio geeks...what size do you rip your mp3? Do you really hear a difference between 128kps and 192kps? I get different feedback from "you do hear a difference" to "it really doesn't matter...over 128kps you're just wasting space on your hard drive". You thoughts on this people.
Well, this is it for now...glad to be back among the blogging living. ^_^
Be Blessed, Be Safe and Have a wonderful day.
