They said count your blessing. It’s kinda hard especially when you are kept being reminded of your misfortune, makes you believe that you don’t deserve the blessing. Change is the hardest when it involves faith. It has never been easy for me to believe that I am of any good. I need to be aware of myself, and accept it before I can change.
- MAMANUR ON "RANDOM - ME!"
In case anyone still ends up here for some reason or another, my current blog is located over at chris24.ca.
Then it's back to my life as a stay at home mom. Just the extra 45 minutes sleep in the morning is going to feel like a luxury. I might celebrate by driving the kids to school in my pajamas. With my luck, the teacher I'm subbing for wouldn't make it back and the principal would run out to ask me to fill in. Heh.
- Potty training. Seriously, I don't remember it being this hard. But the 3 yr old boy did go 4 times today, so I'm not doing so bad.
- Stinking cold coming on. I hope this is as bad as it gets. I just wanted to lay down in the middle of class and go to sleep today.
- Cold weather. Seriously cold weather. I can't take the kids out to the playground in this. They are so antsy. I'm going to scour the bookshelves to see if I have anymore books that might keep them busy.
- I'm at my highest weight in 2 years. I can't seem to get the scale to stay put. It's not even Thanksgiving yet! Ugh.
- Sure, I say this every week, but Steve is just awesome and I love him. Last night, he stopped on the way to the store to pick me up fresh basil and fancy cheese for my soup. And he never complains. He's so good.
- Just 3 more days. It's going to be weird after a month of "working" but I'll glad to be going back to my old life.
- Delicious soup, need I say more?
- "The Pursuit of Holiness" by Jerry Bridges. Seriously, this book is just so awesome. Sure it's kicking my butt, but it's a good kind of buttkicking. The kind every Christian needs.
- Upcoming concerts. We're going to see Ingrid Michaelson next Tuesday. We almost bought tickets to go see "They Might Be Giants" perform their album, "Flood" in it's entirety next Friday, but we have company in town all weekend. I think we are also going to go see Griffin House in a week or so.
- Cookies. Although, this might be the reason for the last thing I loathe.
- Thanksgiving. Sure it's going to be a lot of working, having it here, but it's so worth being surrounded by my family.

I have here Ed Ackerson's Ackerson2 album in my frozen fingers, I don't think there is an official release date, other than that it's already available for purchase. Incidentally, if you don't know who Ackerson is, he is probably best known for being the singer/founder of Polara.

Sleeper and Polara ♥ Whiskey A-Go-Go, Los Angeles (29 Apr 1995) |
Polara opened up for Sleeper, I didn't know who they were back then, but my friends were all savvy to them. It was 90s alternative rock and from this set, they threw a Polara T-Shirt into the crowd and my friend Shawn ended up grabbing it.
So, that's how I was introduced to Polara.
I can't say I have followed them that closely through the years, I am happy to see that they recently released Beekeeping, so be sure to check out Andrew's review.
As the '2' on Ackerson2 indicate, this is Ackerson's second solo album. While, I don't have his earlier album for reference, I can tell you that it's somewhat of a departure from Polara. I get the impression that Ackerson have a lot of songs and demos in his head, and they don't necessary fit in Polara's noisy rock music.
The one song that really sounded different is a banjo-driven song called "Run Away With Me". Maybe it's the banjo, or maybe it's the singing style, but it does bring up that folksy question.
Ackerson explains it:
"Go Ahead And Cry" is my favorite song on the album. It's a little upbeat, for the title and theme of the song, but I like it. I'll bet it should be fantastic live, especially with that banjo section. Which, shock, there will be a CD release party at the Varsity Theater on November 28th. Going there is now a pleasure as they have finally fixed that 35W bridge (it looks and drives much better now!).In a lot of ways this record is about me exploring my pre-noise roots, the influences at the beginning of my musical life before I got into more experimental stuff. Sixties stuff, like Beatles, Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel—the first material I learned to play on guitar. The tight harmony singing, odd juxtapositions of instruments, and playful production on records from that time is still very appealing to me.
