What's
going on people? Seems like I have been away for about 2 months but
it's only been 2 weeks. I had my last class for the spring and now it's
time for me to just relax (just for a minute at least). It's amazing
how sometimes you lose your way in reference to who you are, and why do
one begin projects in the first place.
This past week I have begun listening to my past podcast shows to see how I have improved, what can I do better, what to change, what to leave alone and I have come to the conclusion that the reason why I began this music internet show was to share my different taste in music. It's funny how growing up I knew sometime down the road I would be able to share the music I enjoyed in the order I wanted, I didn't know how this was going to happen but I knew this is what I wanted to do. My very first podcast really reflected that but by the time I recorded "MyLoveForMusic: 19 April episode" I think I allowed myself to slip on that recording but I think when I recorded "MyLoveForMusicExtra:Twilight" I redeemed myself.
This episode is just me "relaxing" and getting my feel again in this wonderful world of podcasting. I have to give a big shout out to Fave, Macedonia, Doug Fresh for making me realize that the best way to put out great shows is to sometimes review your work, don't take yourself too serious, and most important, always, ALWAYS be true to yourself.

Man
I haven't brought a ThriftStoreGems to the masses in a minute but this
one is kind of special for me. While I was converting these it brought
me back to the time when I worked at a store called The Nature Company
back in the late 80s. What was so cool about this store was that this
was a store that was like a dream come true for a grown up. The artists
I will be showcasing will be acoustic guitarist Govi, new age/electronic group Tangerine Dream, and folk/pop artist James Taylor.
These 3 cassettes LPs I converted makes me think of a time when began the road of truly seeing myself as my Creator sees me. I met and worked with cool people, worked in a place where being surrounded by nice music, astronomy, nature, learning about rocks and minerals...it was like heaven. I have to admit I screwed up the job because I wore my emotions on my sleeves when it came to my manager/boss and in the end it was my undoing. But the time I was there I learned that it was truly cool to like science and nature and working in that type of environment I met people that conversation was warm, informing, challenging, and made you seek to do better with your life.
Cassette LP that will be showcases will be...
James Taylor-That's Why I'm Here
Govi-Heart Of a Gypsy
Tangerine Dream-Canyon Dreams
Find you a cool place to chill for the evening, light some candles, kick back, relax and enjoy.

I'm sitting here converting cassette LP and one by Govi[Heart of a Gypsy] takes me back to when I used to work at this store, The Nature Company(Oct-Dec 1989). I believe the stores are now The Discovery Stores but the concept and the design of the store was a beautiful experience. Me and the manager did not get along but just being in the store made my time there so pleasant. The people I worked with, the merchandise they had bring tears of joy to my eyes.
They sold everything from telescopes, books on rocks minerals, bird watching, music that would take you to another place and time. This store in all honesty did more for my self esteem than anything else. It made me realize that just because I was African-American and I enjoyed science that I was not "weird". It made me realize that just because I enjoyed some classical music, jazz music, instrumental music, new age music I was not "strange"...this store opened up a world for me and made me truly begin to love myself and to let me know, "I was not the one the problem...the people I grew up with in my small town had the problem." This is where I met a woman that brought out the true love in me. She let me know that I was handsome, attractive, and my taste in film, music, culture was a blessing and not a curse. (and this was the first woman that ever sent me plain tickets to come and visit her, talk about a boost to the ol' self-esteem...WOW!!!) We fell apart after 6 months but that time made me realize that I couldn't keep painting myself as the "victim" any more and that it was time to realize that life is not fair. All of this from working from this one store.
*the james taylor songs were out before the nature company store were built but his songs fits right in with the feel of these beautiful store.
When you went into these stores, you truly felt you were in a nature surrounding...I miss these stores dearly.
